4. A NEW OLD TESTAMENT JUSTICE (Sept. 2002)
2000. September 1. New York City. Five "youths", as they call them--- girl, 4 boys--- 14 youngest, to 17--- beat a Chinese immigrant to death. Lure him to a vacant house. With a phony food order. Throw a bedsheet over him, beat him to death. Didn't even rob him. $600 left by the body. They just wanted the food. Jin-Sheng Liu, husband, father, hard-working immigrant, lived with his family at the back of his store. The youths had actually already eaten Chinese food that day. They killed for free seconds. After the murder they went to the home of one of them and ate. In the following days they went to the mall, rode their bikes, played music, the girl began her first college classes. The 2 men who murdered 5 employees at Wendy's restaurant in New York City. Took a bus home from the murders. And, according to the police, "slept like babies" after confessing. June 12, 1994. O.J. Simpson kills 2 people around 10:15 PM. Returns home to wash his hands and clean up. Leaves for the airport 11:00, 11:15. Plane departs for Chicago 11:45. People on the plane say..he acted normal. What a burden on those of us who are supposed to bring justice. We have to provide the feelings too: shock, outrage, horror, blah-blah. Maybe someday justice will be as ice-cold and unfeeling as the evil-doers, and as on-target. After a time, maybe you don't waste time on feeling anymore.
